Hinton Gravestones / Headstones – Granite Memorials
We provide granite memorials and monuments for Hinton, and the rest of Alberta.
When planning a funeral for someone dear to us, we often first think of decisions related to cremation vs. casket, closed or open casket, scheduling, photo slideshows, heartfelt eulogies, and more. But a memorial is one of the most important parts of laying someone to rest. It’s important that we commemorate their final resting place with a personal monument that reflects their time with us. We’re proud to offer top-of-the-line custom memorials to achieve the perfect aesthetic for your or your loved one’s gravestone. Memorials are very personal and we’ll do everything in our power to honour your loved one’s memory in stone.
Monuments, Memorials, and Gravestones
There are a variety of monument and memorial types to be chosen upon your loved one’s passing. All of our monuments are easily personalized with your choice of sizes, colours, shapes, engravings, inscriptions, lettering, and accessories such as lanterns, porcelain portraits, and others.
Children Memorials
For deceased children, we have special headstone shapes that resemble childhood, including teddy bears, hearts, engravings of children as angels, and more.
Pet Memorials
Memorializing pets with their own monument are becoming more and more popular. There are a variety of trends when it comes to pet memorials as some people want large monuments and statues while others are happy with a small garden memorial for the home. No matter which type of pet memorial you feel will best honour your late pet, we’ll help you make it perfect.
Pillow Monuments
These monuments are sloped in design, higher at the back and lower on the front. Pillow monuments are mounted on a base similar to an upright monument, but sit much lower similar to a flat. A pillow monument is as customizable as other memorial types and are positioned to be easily legible.
Upright Monuments
Upright monuments are the most popular choice of monument and are what we see most commonly in cemeteries. These monuments can be used to memorialize a single person or multiple depending on preference and plot selection. There are similarities in shape and they both have the ability to be customized, but the double monument is designed for two or more people and has the space for the full details of the deceased.
Flat Gravestones and Bronze Markers
Flat markers sit flush with the earth or in some cases rest on a concrete strip. Bronze markers are manufactured to suit and are secured to a granite base.
Cenotaphs
A cenotaph is often created to serve a unique purpose. These memorials are tower shaped; tall but narrow. These monuments honour those whose remains can’t be found or buried at the site. They are a popular choice as war memorials for fallen soldiers.
What Options Are There for Cremation?
Cremation memorials are often the same as traditional monuments or can be customized to store the urns of those passed.
Personal Columbarium
A personal Columbarium is a rectangular upright granite structure that houses the cremains of a single deceased loved one.
Family/Community Columbarium
If you’re so inclined to sharing a resting place and know that your close relatives will also choose cremation, a family/community columbarium is a great way to stay together even after death. This style of columbarium can memorialize up to 16 people.
Cremation Bench
A cremation bench can house one or two compartments for cremated remains. This is a popular choice for married couples who wish to be memorialized together. The bench can be customized according to your tastes and is available in a variety of styles and colours.
How Are Granite Memorials Made?
First, the stone is sourced from a quarry and extracted in huge chunks with a pneumatic drill. The slab then travels to a granite manufacturer and is then cut into smaller blocks that are more manageable for shaping and designing. Once it is cut to the desired size and shape, the stone is polished to a nice shine. The polishing process naturally darkens the stone and helps protect the monument from weather and damage. The engraving and etching process is performed at the final stage after the stone is cut and polished. This is done using traditional sandblasting techniques or by machined laser, both removing polish to provide the desired engraving.
